UCLA begins accepting applications for new Ph.D. in Environment and Sustainability

In July, UCLA launched a new Ph.D in Environment and Sustainability to empower future leaders in thought and action who seek to take on challenges that require skills in multiple disciplines. Under the guidance of two faculty advisors, students will choose from a broad array of important environmental issues, such as climate, water and other resources, environmental justice, narrative theory and ecosystems.

Solutions to global problems depend on developing and utilizing advanced methods and skills from multiple disciplines. Candidates will conduct research, engaging in coursework and faculty mentoring from the full range of UCLA departments associated with IoES. The degree will prepare graduates for a range of careers in academia, as well as in the public and private sectors.

The Ph.D. program is now accepting applications for admission for its first entering class beginning in Fall 2018. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact potential advisors prior to applying and must submit application materials by December 15, 2017 for consideration.

The new degree program joins the IoES professional doctorate in Environmental Science and Engineering (D.Env.), a practice-focused degree on par with an M.D. or J.D., which is also accepting applications for next fall.
