Travis Longcore co-authors ‘The World at Night’— a comprehensive resource on global light pollution
UCLA adjunct professor Travis Longcore co-authored “The World at Night,” a comprehensive resource on global light pollution published by the Dark Sky Group of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
The 160-page report addresses the increasing threat of light pollution, driven by technological advancements and urbanization. It emphasizes the urgent need for action to minimize the negative impacts of artificial light on human health, wildlife, ecosystems and cultural practices.
Longcore, an expert in ecology and conservation, has played a pivotal role in mitigating the effects of light pollution by providing research and strategies to minimize the use of artificial light. He actively promotes dark sky preservation and education by organizing expeditions for UCLA students to the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve—the first sky dark reserve in the United States and the third largest in the world.
