CCSC, in collaboration with UCLA Sustainable Grand Challenge LA, and other Campus researchers, in collaboration with UCLA Sustainable Grand Challenge LA, are conducting research for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) to help the city achieve its goal of producing all of its energy from carbon-free and renewable energy sources by 2035 and doing so in ways that benefit all Angelenos equitably. As part of the LA100 Equity Strategies study CCSC developed estimates of as-built and existing service capacities of residential properties throughout the LADWP service territory, and future upgrade requirements to handle comprehensive electrification. These projections offer LADWP and city officials otherwise unavailable insights on customer-owned electricity infrastructure, which is a significant barrier to reaching the City’s energy targets. The LA100 Equity Strategies study, co-authored by the UCLA researchers and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), was released November 2023.
More detailed data collection and analysis iswill be important in the LA100this effort and others., and it is led by CCSC is continuing to address these data needs, specifically leveraging its Energy Atlas, which can show city officials where and how much resources are being consumed and at what level, down to the individual building or unit. CCSC is also providedsupporting estimates of as-built and existing service capacities of residential properties throughout the LADWP service territory, and future upgrade requirements to handle full electrification. These projections offer LADWP and city officials otherwise unavailable insights on customer-owned electricity infrastructure, which is a significant barrier to reaching the City’s energy targets.
CCSC, in partnership with the Luskin Center for Innovation, are also facilitating the LADWP Equity Strategies Advisory Committee, to help integrate community-based organizations and other stakeholders in the implementation of the LA100 Equity Strategies study findings.
