Senate Bill 158 – Hazardous Waste was adopted by the Legislature and approved by Governor Newsom in 2021. SB 158 made process and organizational improvements to DTSC, and increased allocations and funding for DTSC to improve its capacity to implement the hazardous waste control laws, and achieve green chemistry objectives. Peggy Nguyen is serving at DTSC for her residency where she has been supporting the development of new SB158- funded programs focusing on environmental law enforcement, and environmental site assessment, cleanup, and regulation in California’s most vulnerable communities.
