Project Phoenix is back for the 2024 season!
Project Phoenix leverages the power of the community to learn more about how wildfire smoke impacts West Coast birds. Led by La Kretz Center postdoctoral Researcher Olivia Sanderfoot, this project engages community scientists across California, Oregon, and Washington to monitor birds during the fire season (July-November), providing valuable data on bird activity when fires are likely to impact air quality.
You can contribute to this critical study by volunteering and submitting 10 minutes of weekly bird observations! Click here to learn more and sign up to volunteer. Data collection will take place between July 1 and November 30, 2024. Volunteers are welcome to sign up and start collecting data at any time, even if there are only a few weeks left in the study. Volunteers are accepted on a rolling basis. Beginner birders are encouraged to participate and volunteering is open to all ages!
