Nathalie Flores
Vice Chair, UN Climate Change Science & Technology Body
Nathalie is an international public policy specialist with nearly 15 years of experience providing senior services on climate change policy, international development, and environmental issues. Since 2010, Nathalie has contributed to the climate change agenda in various roles within the government of the Dominican Republic. During her MSc studies at the University of Wolverhampton, she worked in the United Kingdom under the European Regional Development Fund as a climate change researcher, focusing on the impact of solar panel installations on the energy bills of elderly social housing tenants.
At the Secretariat of the Coalition for Rainforest Nations in New York City, she held senior technical and administrative positions, assisting over 50 member countries. Her roles included providing legal assistance for negotiating carbon market approaches under the UNFCCC and offering GHG inventory training for the AFOLU sector. In her role as sustainability coordinator at the British Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic, Nathalie helped businesses, civil society, and academia contribute to reversing the adverse impacts of climate change.
Nathalie served as director for climate change adaptation and mitigation at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic from September 2020 to 2023. Currently, while performing strategy and government affairs consulting, she serves as a voluntary senior advisor to the government of the Dominican Republic for the UN climate change negotiations. She was also the country’s lead technical negotiator for Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and served as head of the Dominican Republic delegation.
In June 2023, Nathalie was elected vice-chair of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice of the Convention, a role she will perform during the Bonn Climate Talks and at the Conferences of the Parties (COPs).
