Dr. Julia Heck’s primary research interest is the epidemiology of pediatric cancers. The main focus of her research is to identify environmental, occupational, behavioral and molecular factors which influence the risk of cancer. Current projects include NIH-funded studies of traffic-related air pollution, air toxics and pesticide exposures in relation to childhood cancer development.
Heck has a strong interest in global cancer control and has worked on studies of cancer risk among populations in Europe, South Asia and South America. She is principal investigator of a NIH-funded study of Danish children that is examining the cancer risk from parental occupational exposure to chemical and other agents.
