Daniel Swain in SF Gate: ‘Craziness’: Tornado touches down in Davis
A towering funnel cloud was spotted over Davis, Calif., Saturday evening amid thunderstorms sweeping the Central Valley.
The National Weather Service confirms a tornado touched down at 6:41 p.m.
Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at UCLA, says footage from the incident and radar data suggest the event was a “land spout tornado.”
“Land spouts do not have condensation funnel and are usually weaker than their fully-formed counterparts, but still: wow!!!” Swain wrote on Twitter.
