Daniel Swain for LA Times — ‘Long-duration’ heat wave again cooking California, raising health and wildfire concerns

UCLA climate expert Daniel Swain discusses with the Los Angeles Times about how California is experiencing another prolonged heat wave, with triple-digit temperatures expected across much of the inland areas. “Given what has already transpired, and the forecast for the next week or so, it’s quite likely that much of California and the Southwest will end up experiencing their hottest July on record,” Swain said. Although this heat wave may not reach the extremes of the previous one, it poses significant health and wildfire risks due to its duration and minimal nighttime cooling.
