Affiliated CTR Professor Susanna Hecht receives the 2023 AAG Stanley Brunn Award for Creativity in Geography. Join the live conversation on March 24, 2023
The American Association of Geographers (AAG) announced Professor Hecht as the recipient of its 2023 Brunn Creativity Award. Dr. Hecht is recognized as this year’s most influential geographer for her demonstrated originality, creativity, and significant intellectual breakthroughs. Her work advances understanding of the political ecologies, present dynamics, and history of deforestation and reforestation in the Amazon. In particular, she was commended for her contribution of research toward changing the policies and market incentives that caused widespread, destructive deforestation in previous decades. Professor Hecht’s work as an author, researcher, and geographical historian has shed light on more than a century of forest and land use change in the Amazon, critical to determining a path for renewal and protection.
On March 24 2023, Dr. Hecht will participate in a conversation with Antoinette WinklerPrins, deputy division director of the Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences Division of the Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate (SBE) of the National Science Foundation.
