Monica L. Smith’s Book on Human Adaptation to Natural Disasters Now Open-Access
UCLA anthropologist Monica L. Smith‘s edited volume, “The Power of Nature: Archaeology and Human-Environmental Dynamic,” is now accessible for free through the University Press of Colorado Open Books platform.
“The Power of Nature” explores how humans have adapted to the overwhelming forces of nature throughout history. Through archaeological case studies from around the world, Smith examines how societies, from early farmers to complex empires, have responded to natural disasters, diseases and climate change. By focusing on the resilience and ingenuity of humans in the face of nature’s power, the book offers a fresh perspective on human’s relationship with the environment.
