IoES awards first Glickfeld Family Scholarship
The Institute of the Environment and Sustainability congratulates Nancy Tu, who has been awarded the first Glickfeld Family Scholarship in 2011. The scholarship awards $1000 per year, renewable for up to three years, for promising Environmental Science majors who demonstrate academic excellence, a commitment to the environment, and financial need.
The Glickfeld Family Scholarship was established this year by the IoES’s Assistant Director of Outreach and Strategic Initiatives, Madelyn Glickfeld, and her husband Bruce, who are offering the scholarship because, Madelyn says, “We are very committed to UCLA and the Environmental Science Major at the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. Students at this great public university, UCLA, need financial assistance now more than at any time in the past. While our scholarship can cover only a small part of the overall costs each student must pay, it is a step in the right direction.”
Award recipient Nancy Tu is a junior poised to enter her senior year at UCLA as an Environmental Science major with Environmental Engineering minor. According to Nancy, “financial aid covers tuition and housing, but doesn’t leave money for books or food or other necessities. The Glickfeld Family Scholarship will allow me to focus more on school and to work less.” Nancy plans to continue her studies in graduate school for Environmental Engineering after she earns her degree at UCLA.
