Environmental Science B.S. Alumna Jamie Liu wins Grist climate fiction initiative ‘Imagine 2200’
Jamie Liu, a UCLA Environmental Science B.S. alumna, received the first-place prize in Grist’s climate fiction initiative Imagine 2200. The initiative engages writers from across the globe in envisioning the next 180 years of climate progress, featuring stories of innovative climate solutions and community-centered adaptations. This year’s contest garnered 1,050 submissions.
Liu’s winning story, ‘To Labor for the Hive‘ is about how a beekeeper finds a new sense of purpose, community and love after helping to develop a warning system for floods.
Born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley and currently living in New York City, Liu is a writer, climate resilience planner and climate activism volunteer. This is their first published story.
