NASEM Climate Crossroads Summit 2024 inspires global communities in Washington D.C.

climate change, environmental justice

A panel at the second annual NASEM Climate Crossroads Summit hosted by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Climate Crossroads Summit at the National Academy of Sciences Building in Washington D.C. united international environmental experts and informed audiences on July 15 and July 16, 2024.

450 in-person attendees listened to experts sharing their insights on the Kavli Auditorium stage and elsewhere in the building during concurrent workshops while representing global universities, think tanks, IGOs, government agencies, philanthropies and other entities.

With the temperature reaching 100°F in the nation’s capitol on a humid day one of the event following a heat wave exceeding that temperature a few weeks earlier in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area, climate change could not have been a hotter topic.

The UCLA Center for Diverse Leadership in Science (CDLS) was prominently featured thanks to a Community Hub table that attendees visited during a reception, along with CDLS members from the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and Institute of the Environment and Sustainability departments speaking onstage during panels and when audience questions were taken.

Several CDLS Fellows also attended the conference and shared a poster focused on a local initiative led by UCLA CDLS and the nonprofit organization Esperanza Community Housing while having the valuable opportunity to speak with attendees visiting from around the world.
